From the Author: A Child in Your Care has Diabetes: A Collection of Information, is a newly published book. This book, simple as it appears will greatly assist parents and caretakers in the management and organization of information about diabetes. The text simplifies this complicated disease; while the charts and lists help to organize important information for anyone who has charge of a child with diabetes. This includes: a teacher, a school nurse, a camp counselor, a sports coach, a scout leader, a religious instructor, a baby-sitter, a grandparent, a relative or a friend.
This book will help people better understand and manage diabetes information. More importantly, it will help the individuals involved with a child who is diagnosed with diabetes, learn to identify a potentially dangerous situation as well as to provide them with simple instructions to remedy an emergency situation quickly and safely. My goal is to distribute this book to all parents who have a child with diabetes enrolled in an educational program:
pre-school, elementary and high school.

A READER FROM ALLENDALE, NJ:
An Excellent Resource for Parents and Caretakers of School Age Children with Diabetes Elisa Hendel's A Child in Your Care has Diabetes: A Collection of Information is an excellent resource for any caretaker of a school age child who has been diagnosed with diabetes. This book simply and clearly explains and identifies the steps involved in caring for a child with this condition. The charts and lists have been most helpful in organizing material for school and after school activities. This book will direct caretakers to where they need to find additional answers with respect to the individual children.
I recommend this book for all parents/caretakers/teachers/coaches and friends. I think it will help them to better understand diabetes, and additionally help the children who have diabetes, be safe when they are away from home.

RICK MENDOSA writes: A Child in Your Care has Diabetes: A Collection of Information is the product of Elisa Hendel's experience of living with her child's diabetes. Her daughter, Robyn, was six when she was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. When Elisa recovered from the shock of that diagnosis, she diligently collected a huge amount of information on diabetes. Each year she simplified and organized it, distributing it to everyone who is involved in her daughter's life.
Now she shares the wealth of her experience with the rest of the world. What she has created is a concise, easy to follow manual for parents, teaches, caretakers, friends, baby sitters and others who are responsible for a child with diabetes. Hen House Press published this booklet in 2002 for $21.95.
